A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority (PHOTA) and Donation Transplantation Foundation Institute (DTI) Spain will cooperate to help improve organ donations and transplantation activities. As per MoU, both the institutions wish to enter into the statement of intentions in order to implement a group of action that could increase the organs donation in the Punjab. PHOTA will collaborate with DTI to develop training programme for healthcare professionals.
Chairman Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), Lahore Dr Saeed Akhtar, Director Technical PHOTA Dr Ghulam Murtaza and other members of Pakistani delegation were also present. Punjab Minister SH&ME Kh. Salman Rafique said that DTI will cooperate to develop training activities through its Transplant Procurement Management (TPM) apart from developing projects in the field of donation and transplantation with the aim to increase opportunities for access to transplantation and to improve human living conditions.
Earlier, in a moot held in connection with cadaveric transplant donation, Chairman PKLI Dr Saeed Akhtar said that organs donation after death is not prohibited in Islam.
