While the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is addressing a public meeting at Abbottabad on Sunday (today) as a part of his mass contact campaign and preparations for general elections 2018, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to take to streets and mobilize its workers to give tough time to its opponents, particularly the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Sources in the PML-N told Business Recorder that the party leadership has asked its members and legislators to focus on completion of development schemes in their respective areas and establish close contact with the people of their respective constituencies.
On Saturday, PML-N leaders Hamza Shahbaz and Maryam Nawaz separately visited NA-119 and NA-120, respectively, held meetings with the party workers and discussed developmental works, party affairs and future political activities. Talking to media during her visit to NA-120, Maryam Nawaz said the party was intact and those trying to break it will fail. Responding to a query about resignation of 72 PML-N leaders as claimed by the opposition leaders, she said: "It might be someone's desire to have their resignations, but it was not the case in reality."
About cases against the Sharifs, Maryam said she was expecting a better decision. To a query about her visit to London, she said the programme of her visit has not been finalized yet. Responding to another question, Maryam claimed that the PML-N will once again rule the country after victory in 2018 general elections as the nation still loves them and wants them to serve the country.
On the other hand, PML-N leader Hamza Shahbaz during his visit to NA-119 told media persons that there are reservations on some verdicts as justice should not only be done but also seen to be done. Answering a question, Hamza claimed that nothing is liable on their part and courts will clear them. He said those who want see differences in the Sharif family would be disappointed again. To another question, he said, "The journey of democracy should continue at all cost and legislation in this regard is a good omen which would pave a way for general elections in 2018."
"Accountability is not new for us. We have already faced such things in Musharraf's regime and now we are again ready for it." Hamza said in Hudabia case he remained sentenced for six months when he was a college student and subsequently the court had declared the case null and void in juvenile perspective. Earlier, Hamza Shahbaz visited the residences of councilors Tariq Butt and Rafique Guddo Butt in Northern Lahore.
