The second Adventure Marathon Race from Pir Sohawa-Islamabad to Khanpur Lake in Haripur district got under way on Saturday. The youth, both male and female, departed their journey to Pir Sohawa-Islamabad from Tourism Information Centre located at the Peshawar Museum. Sixty teams each comprising five members, have reached Pir Sohawa from where they will start race from Pir Sohawa to Khanpur Lake at 8am today.
The racers will have to cover a total of 23 kilometers distance via Tilhar, Tonia and Pomala villages, Kerwali Top and Najabpur area. It includes 13 kilometers trekking, nine kilometers cycling and one kilometer rafting Deputy Secretary Sports, Tourism, Archaeology, Museums, Culture and Youth Affairs Department, Tauseef Khalid, will be chief guest at the concluding ceremony.
The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and the Adventure Edge Club have jointly organized the marathon race with an aim to providing the youth an opportunity of adventure tourism and engage them in healthy activities. The organisers said that holding such events were aimed at reviving the tourist spots in the province and providing opportunity to the youth to exploit and explore their talent in the best possible way.
They said these amazing and alluring adventures were being hosted by an experienced and enthusiastic staff of Adventurer Edge Club and TCKP on an exceptional location combined with a fantastic scenic view. Meanwhile, The Fata inter-schools sports festival concluded here at the Jamrud sports complex in tribal Khyber Agency. Students from all the tribal agencies and the Frontier Regions participated in the sports gala organized by the Fata Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
The Khyber Agency clinched the overall first position by securing 63 points. The Khyber Agency players won football, basketball and athletics events. The North Waziristan team won the cricket event whereas the Mohmand Agency team won the volleyball competition. Similarly, the badminton event was won by players from the Kurram Agency. Director Education, Fata, Hashim Khan was the chief guest of the concluding ceremony. He distributed trophies and prizes among the winning players.
