Lions Clubs International is ready to extend free awareness and treatment facilities to the diabetic patients after successfully serving in the field of ophthalmology, said PCC Mian Muhammad Adrees PMJF. Inaugurating the first State of the Art Diabetes Institute in Aziz Fatima Hospital here Sunday, he said that serving ailing humanity is the most sacred duty of philanthropists and God fearing persons.
He told that earlier Lions Clubs International has rendered excellent services for the treatment of eye related ailments. He said that our services motivated other social welfare organizations that are also now organizing free eye camps in different parts of the city.
Continuing Mian Adrees said that the disease of diabetes has attained alarming proportion and we must now devote our energies to control this fast spreading illness. He said that diabetes is actually root cause to many other diseases including cancer, heart attacks, lungs infection and hypertensions etc. Hence, the Lions should create awareness among masses so that people in general and women in particular could be saved from this disease.
He termed the diabetes institute as an important step to provide state of the art facilities to the patients suffering from this disease. He said that apart from providing medical treatment, we must equip our medical students with specialized education for the treatment of diabetic patients. He hoped that in the coming years this medical college will also offer specialized education in different fields of medical sciences including diabetes. "We shall also try to produce specialists for the treatment of diabetes who could play a major role in arresting this fast spreading disease," he added.
Earlier, Dr. Nassir Mehmood in his presentation told that diabetes is a universal issue. However, out of total 422 Million diabetic patients, half of them belong to USA, China and India. He further told that there are 11 Million diabetic patients in Pakistan while this disease is spreading at a much faster pace. He stressed the need to launch a comprehensive awareness drive in the country. He suggested that best treatment of diabetes is simple living and simple food through which we could minimize the prevalence of many other fetal diseases like cancer and heart stroke etc. During this function Dr. Qaiser Mehmood principal Aziz Fatima Medical College, Dr. Bilal Sufi, Azhar Chaudhary and Rashid Muneer of Lions Club were also present.
