Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government should contact the military leadership to peacefully end the ongoing sit-in of religious parties in Islamabad. The opposition leader expressed these views while talking to media persons outside his chamber in the Parliament House on Tuesday.
"As a leader of the opposition, I will say that military's leadership should be contacted, it is legal and constitutional authority [of government] that they [armed forces] can be called to resolve this issue through dialogue," he said. He said that negotiations should be held to resolve the issue. He claimed that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is responsible for the present situation in the country.
"Leaders can be bad but not the Parliament," he said, adding that a disqualified person leading a party can never yield positive results. The protestors camping down at Faizabad Interchange are calling for the sacking of Law Minister Zahid Hamid and strict action against those who were behind the amendment to the Khatm-e-Nabuwat oath in the Elections Act 2017 ? which had earlier been deemed a 'clerical error' by the government and subsequently rectified by the Parliament.
