Punjab Environment Minister Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has called for a complete ban on two-stroke engine motorcycles. She also asked for devising a comprehensive and coordinated joint policy by the traffic police, motorway police, ring road police and the environment protection department for taking action against the vehicles causing smoke and noise pollution.
She expressed these views while chairing a meeting at her office here on Friday which reviewed steps to check the smoke-emitting vehicles. She asked the transport department to check fitness of vehicles on roads and cancel license of smoke-emitting vehicles. She also asked for creating awareness about smoke pollution among the masses through distribution of literature and pamphlets. She asked the traffic wardens to educate people about tuning of their vehicles every month and ensure implementation on traffic rules to end the environment pollution.
