Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed two confectioneries and chilli-grinding mill (Chakki) over multiple issues of food hygiene during a crackdown against food adulterators in Faisalabad division and its adjourning cities held here on Wednesday. As many as 1200 kilograms of substandard spices and 900 kilograms bran (choker) was confiscated over proved adulteration during raid, later discarded.
PFA Additional Director General (Operations) Rafia Haider said that PFA's watchdogs under the supervisions of food safety officer have raided on various food points and production units to examine the quality of food in different districts of Faisalabad division including Toba Tek Singh and Chiniot. Rafia Haider said that PFA has registered a case against the unit (mill) owner and handed over to police in the respective area police station. She said that substandard and unhygienic chili was not only supplied in Pakistan but also exported in Afghanistan. Teams have also witnessed presence of insects, adulteration and use of non-food grade colour which was being used during the preparing chili.
Whereas, PFA has sealed two bakeries and sweets outlets including ideal Sweets and Bakers and Lodhi Sweets) over not meet the food standards during operation held in Chiniot. Also, Rs 2000 fine was imposed on a hotel. Teams have also served warning and improvement notices to dozen of food points including hotels, restaurants, production units, tea stalls and milk shops for not conforming to PFA instructions.
