National Assembly Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage inquired about the details regarding 'off airing' of transmission of news channels by Pemra during operation against sit-in protestors here at Faizabad Interchange.
The committee met under the chairmanship of MNA Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla and discussed the matter regarding 'off airing' of transmission of news channels by Pemra. Although the minister of state condemned the act of off airing the news channels, she stated that the action taken by ministry was imperative and the committee can be briefed in-camera with all the facts and figures, if required.
The committee considered "The Redistributive Land Reforms Bill, 2017" (moved by MNA SA Iqbal Quadri) and deliberated that the subject bill does not relate to the committee and decided that the bill may be deferred till next meeting. The committee also deliberated on the installation status of new TV boosters by PTV and inquired about the delay in the completion of projects. It was briefed to the committee that the delay was on the part of the contractors; therefore the committee recommended that the inquiry may be conducted against the persons responsible for the delay. The committee also unanimously confirmed the minutes of its previous meetings held on October 25, 2017.
