The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has issued the first selection list of candidates admitted to MBBS and BDS programme in public sector medical and dental colleges of the Punjab for the session 2017-18. The last merit for MBBS has been 89.0364 and that for BDS 88.9273 percent. Last year, this merit was 88.6 and 88.4 percent respectively.
The merit has been calculated as per the weightage formula of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), adding 10 percent of matriculation, 40 percent of intermediate and 50 percent of entrance test marks, a UHS spokesman, said, adding: "Only those candidates who secured 83.4 percent or above aggregate marks as per PMDC formula were eligible to apply for admission on open merit basis this year. Applications were received from 10th to 17th November."
A total of 48,533 candidates appeared in the entrance test this year. Out of these, 11,308 eligible candidates applied for admission against 3197 open merit (3022 MBBS plus 175 BDS), 61 under-developed districts' (49 MBBS plus 12 BDS), 76 reserved seats for children of Overseas Pakistanis/Dual Nationality holders (72 MBBS plus 4 BDS), and 20 disabled candidates (19 MBBS plus 01 BDS) seats available in 17 public sector medical and three dental colleges of the province, the spokesman said.
According to him, the King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Lahore, as always remained the top choice of candidates with merit for the institution closing at 92.5455 percent. The last merit for Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore is 91.4403 percent, Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore 90.9416 percent, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College, Lahore 90.6455, Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, Lahore 90.1636 percent, Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore 90.0948 percent, Nishtar Medical University, Multan 90.0636 percent, Rawalpindi Medical University, Rawalpindi 89.7364 percent, Faisalabad Medical University, Faisalabad 89.7273 percent, Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala 89.5727 percent, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur 89.4000 percent, Sargodha Medical College, Sargodha 89.3398 percent, Khawaja Mohammad Safdar Medical College, Sialkot 89.2788 percent, Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal 89.2316 percent, Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Gujrat 89.2091 percent, Sheikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan 89.1091 percent, and D.G. Khan Medical College, D.G. Khan 89.0364 percent.
For BDS programme, the last merit of de'Montmorency College of Dentistry Lahore is 89.000 percent, Dental Section Faisalabad Medical University Faisalabad 88.9364 percent, and that of Nishtar Institute of Dentistry, Multan 88.9273 percent. For reciprocal seats, the merit of Khyber Medical College Peshawar is 89.5541 percent, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College, Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 89.1545 percent, Azad Jammu Kashmir Medical College, Muzaffarabad, AJ&K, 89.0823 percent, Poonch Medical College, Rawlakot, AJ&K 89.0273 percent and for Bolan Medical College, Quetta the last merit is 89.0091 percent. For 76 seats reserved for Children of Overseas Pakistani/Dual Nationality holders, the last merit is 88.2909 percent. For disabled candidates category, the merit remained at 74.1169 percent.
For admission against 61 seats reserved for the students of 06 under-developed districts including Muzzafargarh, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Bhakkar, Layyah and D.G. Khan, the last merit is as follows: Muzzafargarh 88.9532 percent, Rajanpur (Tribal Area) 76.7273 percent, Rajanpur (Settled Area) 88.7173 percent, Lodhran 88.7952 percent, Bhakkar 88.6364 percent, Layyah 88.7502 percent and D.G. Khan (Tribal Area) 86.5273 percent and D.G. Khan (Settled Area) 88.9394 percent. The merit for one seat reserved for Cholistan is 82.1186 percent.
