Lahore Gymkhana Golf team has won the Lahore Golf Cup after defeating Defence Raya Club here on Sunday. Gymkhana Club team applied their abilities to the maximum to end up successful and thereby achieve glory. In the overall reckoning Gymkhana managed to accumulate a three days aggregate of 72 points as against 70.5 points compiled by their nearest rivals, Defence Raya. Royal Palm did not fare well and could gather only 37.5 points.
This championship happens to be a brain child of Lieutenant General Tariq and reminds us of the traditional clash between the cricketing teams of Government College and Islamia College which generated considerable interest a few decades back and now the same vigour and energy has travelled to the golfing arenas of Lahore. Shaukat Javed, Convenor Golf of Lahore Gymkhana said, "In time to come other golf clubs of Lahore like Garrison Golf Club and Lake City will become a part of this clash to make it still more eventful."
The champion who stood out for Royal Palm on Sunday was the rising fourteen year old star Damil Ataullah. He beat his senior rivals like Wazir Ali and Zunair Aleem to appear as the best team member of Royal Palm. Dr Tashbeeb was another one to shine for Royal Palm and so did their Captain, Lieutenant General M.Tariq. At the conclusion of the Lahore Cup Golf Championship,the winning trophy was handed over to the winning Captain of Gymkhana, Amir Mehmood by Dr Dildar Chaudry, Captain of the Defence Raya team.
