More than 100 primary schools have been initially selected for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of teachers in district Peshawar and Swat. So far total of 800 primary school teachers have been trained. CPD is implemented by Provincial Institute of Teacher Education (PITE) and aims to bring a significant improvement in the teaching skills of teachers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The KP Elementary and Secondary Education Department (ESED) with the collaboration of Provincial Institute of Teacher Education (PITE) stared this pilot programme this year in September. An academic calendar for the training has also been developed by the Provincial Institute of Teacher Education (PITE).Under this training various capacity building trainings sessions and refresher courses have also been arranged to ensure teaching techniques are up to date and modern.
Recognizing the importance of teacher preparation, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has spent more than Rs 800 million on professional development activities for teachers. These training workshops aim to provide background and skills necessary for teachers to participate in the upcoming monthly academic activities. The objective is to orient teachers in specified subject especially with regard to the content where students faced difficulties during the assessments of grade two and five.
Teachers are to acquire knowledge, skills and techniques regarding efficient teaching. These trainings also empower teachers with the latest learning tools, pedagogical skills and techniques pertaining to their teaching methods. ESED is determined to transform the education sector and by initiating reforms will not only improve education but also create a quality impact for the better teaching and learning outcomes in schools.
