After release of Baqir Najfi report, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to gear up efforts to get support of like-minded parties to build pressure on the government for holding early elections. In a meeting chaired by Chairman PTI Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence on Friday, it was decided to initiate contacts with Tahirul Qadri of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), who has already asked his supporters to stay on high alert, as they can be told to take to the streets any time against ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The PTI leaders discussed Justice Najafi's report on the 2014 Model Town tragedy following which the party decided to send a six-member delegation to meet Dr Qadri in Lahore. Vice Chairman PTI Shah Mehmood Qureshi and members Jahangir Tareen, Chaudhry Sarwar, Aleem Khan, Ejaz Chaudhry and Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed will be part of the delegation. In a statement issued after the meeting, the PTI echoed PAT's demand for resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. "There is no justification for Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah to remain in their offices," the PTI said in the statement.
Justice Najafi's report on the Model Town incident - which was made available to the public on Lahore High Court's orders - pointed fingers at Rana Sanaullah and Punjab Police. "The operation planned and designed under the chairmanship of the law minister resulted in gruesome killings could have easily been avoided," said the report.
