Like other parts of the country, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), other religious parties, legal fraternity and trade bodies staged protest demonstrations on Friday against US President Donald Trump for accepting Jerusalem as Israel's capital. A large number of JI workers and traders staged protest demonstrations at Aabpara Chowk, while the activists of Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen took out a rally from Imambargah Asna Ashri, sector G-6/2, after Friday prayers.
Religious groups including Jamaat-ud-Dawa staged a protest at sector I-8 against the US President's move. They chanted anti-Israel and anti-US slogans. Similarly, Islamabad High Court Bar Association staged a protest rally and boycotted the court proceedings to condemn US President Donald Trump's announcement. The lawyers staged a protest rally from F-8 District Court to D-Chowk.
Lawyers' community urged the US President to take back his decision and asked the government to end diplomatic relations with the US. The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans like 'Free Al-Quds', 'Shame on USA', 'Stop the Israeli terrorism', 'Free Palestine from Israeli occupation' and 'We condemn the US-Israel nexus.' They also chanted slogans like "death to America" and "Death to Israel." The protesters also burnt Trump's effigies.
Heavy contingents of police were deployed at the protest venues in order to avert any untoward situation. However, all protest rallies culminated peacefully. Speakers at the protest rallies said that they are with the Palestinians who will be liberated soon from Israeli occupation. They said that Israel should stop terrorist activities. "We are not afraid of Israel and its friends," they said, adding if all Muslim states get united, no one can stop the independence of Palestine.
They said that all Muslim states need to unit in order to stop Trump and other Americans from supporting Israel and that would be the time to finish Israel once and for ever. The move to recognize Jerusalem by US President has severely damaged the emotions of the Muslim Ummah. They also demanded the closure of the US embassy in Pakistan till Trump takes back his decision.
