National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has recovered over Rs 300 million out of which Rs 181 million have been given to Sindh government. "All segments of society will have to join hands to eradicate the menace of corruption in society," Director General NAB Karachi, Mohammad Altaf Bawany said in his welcome speech after anti-corruption walk that was organized to observe the International anti-Corruption Day under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).
He said that under the chairmanship of (former) Justice Javed Iqbal, NAB Karachi was visibly improving its performance in terms of registration of complaints, disposal of the cases, filing of references and recoveries of looted money. He said NAB Karachi had recovered over Rs 300 million out of which Rs 181 million were given to Sindh government. Later, he and chief guest of the event Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rehman also gave away awards and cash prizes to the position-holders of various schools and colleges.
Dr Atta-ur-Rehman and Javed Miandad also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of NAB. A large number of people from all walks of life participated in the walk. They included: Members of senior bureaucracy, educational institutions, government departments, civil society and ordinary citizens. The anti-corruption walk commenced at the Karachi beach and culminated at the Nishan-e-Pakistan Park.
DG NAB Karachi Mohammad Altaf Bawany led the walk along with eminent Scientist Dr Attaur Rehman and senior officers of NAB. Social worker Sarim Burney, Olympian Islahuddin, former cricketers Salim Yousuf, Javed Miandad, Alamuddin Bullo, chairman Anti-Corruption Establishment Sindh also joined them.
