The city police finalising foolproof security arrangements in the provincial capital after receiving information regarding some terror activity, Business Recorder has learnt through reliable sources. The sources added that all police officers, particularly SPs, DSPs and field officers, have been directed to carry out search and combing operations in their respective divisions on regular basis which would help them in maintaining law and order situation.
A senior police officer said the high-command of the Police department has issued "special directions" to the personnel of security division in this regard. "We have directions to be vigilant by ensuring all possible security arrangements," the officer said.
It may be noted that Superintendent of Police (Security) Lahore Ammara Athar recently held several security meetings with different stakeholders to sensitize them about prevailing security challenges in the city. Out of her three recent meetings, the SP held her first meeting with the representatives of different banks across the city and asked them to be vigilant.
"The representatives of banks should immediately inform police after observing any suspicious activity around the premises of banks," the SP said. On Wednesday, the SP held her second meeting with focal persons and security in-charges of all hospitals in the provincial metropolis to discuss current security scenario.
In the meeting, the SP had directed the representatives to remain in contact with Police department to avoid any troublesome situation in future while the Special Branch of Punjab police also directed to complete security audit of all hospitals with immediate effect. On Thursday, SP Ammara met with police officials and representatives of different shrines and directed the concerned personnel to immediately complete the process of installation of CCTV cameras at shrines.
"We would conduct a survey in the next week to review the implementation," she maintained. On the other hand, the chief minister's monitoring force had also issued a threat alert on December 13, urging the authorities to immediately take preventative measures against the suspected eventuality of militancy in the city.
