Scholars of humanities and social science recommended various solutions to the existing problems of world on the third and last day of Three-day International Conference on "Social Sciences and Humanities in the new millennium: Challenges and Prospects", organised by the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), and Virtual University. Last day of conference started with an exciting plenary session led by key-note speakers Dr Adil Najam, former VC LUMS and Javed Jabbar, a renowned writer, film maker and former senator and federal minister.
The conference concluded with a closing ceremony highlighting the deliberations and recommendations in result of thoughtful insights by researchers and scholars. Participants offered Fateha for the souls of martyrs of APS Peshawar and stood silent for one minute to pay tribute them.
While addressing the closing ceremony Prof Dr Uzma Quraishi, Vice Chancellor LCWU announced to dedicate university's Institute of Education to the principal APS Tahira Qazi who was martyred in struggle to save the lives of her students. The VC said that Syndicate would be requested to endorse this decision. She further said that this conference was an opportune time to renew contacts and discuss problems of mutual interest with delegates from different parts of country and abroad. "Indeed, there is a need of deep understanding of the existing challenges to look for pertinent solutions using research tools to deal with emerging social sciences and humanities paradigm shifts. Keeping in view the above scenario, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore joined hands with Virtual University of Pakistan to address various emerging issues of "Social Sciences and Humanities in the New Millennium: Challenges and Prospects" in the form of this international conference. In this regard, I would like to thank VU of Pakistan to extend their cooperation for the successful organization of this mega academic and research event. In addition, I am most thankful for staff members of LCWU for their efforts," said Dr Uzma Quraishi, VC of LCWU. Dr Naveed A Malik, Rector VU Pakistan, said that this conference was a good effort to put together different social sciences and Humanities scholar and experts on this platform from various parts of the country and world. Their insight on dynamic socio-economic, political and global issues would really help to find a better solution of existing problems faced by people all over the world.
Malik Ahmed Khan, Spokesperson for the government of Punjab, praised the efforts of VC of LCWU and her team to organize such a wonderful academic event in Lahore.
Prof Dr Najma Najam, Conference Chair, Advisor Academics, Virtual University of Pakistan said that it was gratifying to note that the agenda of the Ist International Conference on "Social Sciences and Humanities in the New Millennium: Challenges and Prospects" covered a wide range of very interesting items which initiated debate on various in the arena of social sciences and humanities.
