Aitzaz Ahsan, Leader of Opposition in Senate, said the Supreme Court has dealt leniently with the Sharif family in the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case. He was responding to the media queries outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday. He claimed that the apex court dealt "light-handedly with the Sharif family" - a decision that was beyond his understanding.
According to him, Jahangir Tareen had presented his money trail to the court while Nawaz Sharif did not even produce a single paper. He said an Iqama was generally used to keep money in secret off-shore bank accounts. It was a much more serious crime than Panama, he added.
He also expressed his reservations over the Supreme Court's dismissal of the National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) appeal to re-open the Hudaibiya case and warned that such decisions would weaken confidence in the courts. While responding to the latest address of the Chief Justice, he said, "Trust is established through verdicts, not clarifications."
