Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Spokesman Fawad Chaudhary has said that PTI supports an amendment on delimitation of constituencies in the Senate. While addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said after the amendment the Punjab would lose nine National Assembly seats and Khyber Pakhtunkwa would gain seven seats.
He urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to immediately start the work on the delimitation of the constituencies. "To avoid a constitutional crisis, we are supporting the amendment; its passage in the Parliament will pave the way for new general elections," he added.
He observed that the delimitation process was expected to be completed within three months. He also welcomed the briefing given by the army to the members of the Senate. He said PTI supported the deadline given by Dr Tahirul Qadri. Both Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah should resign by the end of December. "The PTI will stand with Dr Qadri whatever action or decision he takes in January," he added.
He came hard on PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif for maligning the superior courts and warned him that if the PML-N launched a campaign against the judiciary, the PTI will pre-empt it by launching its campaign in favour of the constitution and the judiciary.
He said PTI would submit a review appeal on the disqualification of his leader Jahangir Tereen. He was of the view that the ECP's announcement of by-election in Tareen's constituency was hasty. He advised the ECP to stick to its real task of carrying out the delimitation of constituencies.
He said PTI had its reservation on the present ECP set-up and demanded its reconstitution. Fawad also said that PTI would again approach courts on the matter relating to the Hudaibiya case and in that connection the party had constituted a committee.
