This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "It's no use crying over spilled milk, Mr Chairman" carried by the newspaper yesterday. According to it, the senators belonging to the treasury and opposition found themselves at the centre of a storm for divulging information of a secret briefing to the Senate by the Army Chief as Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani referred the issue to house business advisory committee to look into it.
The firs-ever briefing in the history of the Senate, wherein Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Qamar Javed Bajwa apprised the senators of matters related to national security and other sensitive issues in an in-camera briefing for about four hours, instantly became breaking news.
There is no denying the fact that the honourable Senate chairman is crying over the spilled milk. The question is why he failed to explain to the fellow senators about what constitutes in-camera proceedings before he decided to invite the army chief to brief the Senate on a variety of issues. Why didn't he name all those who violated the rules and reprimanded them or sought explanations from them? The Senate chairman too, it appears, has failed to act responsibly.
