The Met Office asked the farmers on Thursday to step up efforts to safeguard standing crops and plant nurseries from adverse effects of extreme weather during the winter season. It also alerted that the weeds consume the soil moisture and the feed meant for the growth of crops that result in a considerable fall of yield. It urged the farmers to remove the unneeded plants without any delays.
"Farmers should chalk out plans for crop irrigation keeping in view the expected weather, said the Met, adding that fog may continue over some of the plains of Punjab and Upper Sindh during morning and night hours. It further said that normal wind pattern is likely to prevail across the most of agricultural plains of the country until December 31 with expected dust-storms in Southern Punjab and Upper Sindh. Night temperature is expected to drop slightly by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius. During the day it is likely to remain slightly normal in the most parts of the country.
Weather in the next 10 days: Mainly dry weather is expected in the most of agricultural plains of Punjab with an isolated, light-to-moderate rainfall, at some places of Upper parts of the province. Weather in Sindh, Balochistan and Kashmir may remain cold and dry. However, upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and hills of Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to receive a light-to-moderate rainfall with a snowfall over hills.
