The Karachi Port handled 155,142 tonnes of cargo comprising 120,479 tonnes of import cargo and 34,663 tonnes of export cargo including 5,419 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 120,479 tonnes comprised of 36,080 tonnes of containerised cargo; 20,314 tonnes of general cargo; 38,976 tonnes of bulk cargo: 33,400 tonnes of coal; 5,576 tonnes of fertilizer and 25,109 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 34,663 tonnes comprised of 29,641 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,202 tonnes of rice and 3,820 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,419 containers comprising of 2,188 containers import and 3,231 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,060 of 20's and 522 of 40's loaded while 04 of 20's and 40 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 745 of 20's and 355 of 40's loaded containers while 660 of 20's and 558 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were eight ships namely Cosco New York, YM Wealth, Sima Genesis, MOL Explorer, MT Shalamar, Union Trader, Bunga Lavender and Suzuki Express carrying containers, oil tanker, coal, chemical and vehicle respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were five vessels viz. MOL Explorer, Al Mahboobah, Suzuki Express, Van Cherry and Zi Jing Song carrying containers, oil tanker, vehicle and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Northern Priority, Sima Giselle and Athos carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while another ship namely SBI Lyra carrying coal is expected to sail on Saturday.
There were four vessels Van Northern Priority, Sabya, Great Link and Positive Pioneer carrying containers, coal and vehicle respectively due to arrive on Friday, while five vessels viz. CMA CGM Pujet, Hansa Offenburg, Prosper, AC-D and EM Ruby carrying containers, caustic soda and coal respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
