Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal has threatened to begin mass struggle against the government if "unfair and biased policies targeting Karachiites are continued." "Karachiites will initiate mega struggle to decide the best solution for their future," he said, addressing his party's public meeting at Liaquatabad flyover, here on Sunday.
Kamal said Pakistan came into being due to struggle of ancestors of Karachiites. He warned that no discrimination against them would be tolerated, any more. However, he made clear he and his party would never go against 'the state and its pillars.' He accused Sindh Chief Minister of hatching conspiracies against Karachi through distortion of actual figures of population of its districts. He said around 7 million people of Karachi's urban areas were not included in the recently-held census results under a deliberate attempt to deprive Karachiites of their legitimate rights.
He said that no new electoral constituencies were being made. He said Sindh CM was going to change the electoral constituencies within the city. He said Chief Minister is bent upon distorting the population statistics of various districts of Karachi that, according to him, is a big conspiracy against the country. "Government should pay attention to the our concerns. Usurpation of the rights of Karachiites will not be allowed," he urged.
PSP chairman demanded of the government to ensure jobs to the youth of Karachi in government departments. He proposed a road map for restructuring of the city on administrative lines, and called for an immediate formation of a professional finance commission, separation of the city's master plan department from the building control authority. He said that master plan department is functioning under Karachi Development Authority. It should be made an independent organization. He alleged that Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) has been excluded from CPEC while city's transportation issues remain unresolved. He proposed that the transport system should be upgraded as per the international standards to cope with the challenges. He called for a complete ban on heavy traffic movement in the centre of the city.
Kamal said that availability of drinking water has become a distant dream for the residents of various neighborhoods across the city. He proposed construction of garbage transfer stations (GTS) in the city on a priority basis saying this would help the city administration dispose of garbage in an effective manner. He said the city is generating some 12000 tons of garbage while the civic authority can hardly lift 2000 thons. The rest of waste remained dumped in the heart of the city, creating health and environment issues. He lashed out at the PPP-led provincial government for holding control on various civic departments, depriving the local bodies' representatives of their legitimate powers. "Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, transport and Solid Waste Management System must be the subjects of KMC and Karachi Mayor must be empowered," he urged.
PSP chairman said a master plan department was established in 2007 to have a check on wrongdoings of building control authority in the city; however the incumbent provincial government has arbitrarily taken the department under the control of SBCA. "Things will get even worst if the master plan department is not made an independent entity," he said.
