This is apropos a Business Recorder op-ed "Clarifying CPEC" carried by the newspaper on Saturday. The writer, Farhat Ali, has shed ample light on the composition of the China and Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He has raised certain pertinent questions that are required to be answered by our policymakers. He has argued, inter alia, "another important news is that the government has recently rejected a Chinese proposal to allow Chinese yuan as a currency in Gwadar city, mostly developed by the Chinese, as the offer strengthens doubts about China's investments in Pakistan. The new move about the use of RMB as a currency for bilateral trade has been generally welcomed by importers. Exporters, however, have not shown any enthusiasm in this regard."
No doubt, his is a highly objective view or assessment that clearly stems from nationalistic sentiment. Fair comments and analyse will surely add to the credibility of the CPEC.
