Born on 21 June 1953 in the house of Quaid-e-Awam Zulfiqar All Bhutto, Benazir Bhuttos entire life was dedicated to Pakistan and its people. After only 3 years of the martyrdom of Zulfiqar All Bhutto, Shaheed Benazir took the reins of a scattered and de-motivated political party in 1982, at the young age of 29 years, and restarted the struggle she had inherited as a Bhutto. Before becoming the Chairperson of the PPP, Benazir Bhutto was busy in her study at the Oxford University England from 1973 to 1977. In 1976, she was elected as the President of Oxford Union, which was an achievement not only personally for her but also for her country since she was the first Asian student to be elected to that esteemed position. Her modern education and exposure to the world and her charismatic and leadership qualities soon turned the party into a formidable force within matters of a few years, and she became one of the most vocal and strongest political voices within Pakistan and globally.
Shaheed Benazir Bhuttos entire political struggle was for the soul of Pakistan, for its democracy, peace, prosperity and ideology. She also was the foremost ambassador of Pakistan, its soft image, its promise and potential on the world stage.
In her earliest political struggle and later as the Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto followed the path of her great father, and successfully overcame darkness and national disillusionment with her ideals of democracy, human rights and prosperity for the people. Initially the dictatorial regime and later the remnants of that dictatorship laid every possible hurdle in her path to discourage, dissuade and tire her down in her struggle for her people, to no avail. She was ready for her struggle and she never shied away from taking on challenges and suffering personally for the right of her people.
Benazir Bhutto believed that a strong Pakistan was vital to the prosperity of her nation. Like her father, she too committed herself to help Pakistan emerge stronger on the world stage, with every passing day. Towards that end, she inculcated a harmonious relationship between state institutions especially the parliament and the executive with the armed forces. She helped in putting every possible resource at the disposal of the armed forces to help them strengthen the institutions, systems, human and technological resources. She promoted and accelerated the national nuclear programme and simultaneously launched the national missile technology and other defence related programmes, which met tremendous successes in her tenure and continue to strengthen Pakistan.
Today, the Government of Sindh continues to derive inspiration from Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in all spheres of development and public welfare. Our recent success in the provincial energy sector, health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, irrigation and socioeconomic sectors are the direct outcome of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto's Pro--people vision and our firm belief in her mission of serving and empowering the people as the only way forward for Pakistan.
