The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday decided to file another reference against former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif for alleged misuse of authority in construction of a road from Raiwind to Jati Umra. A NAB official said the decision to this effect was taken in NAB Executive Board Meeting (EBM), presided over by NAB chairman, former Justice Javed Iqbal.
The EBM decided to file a corruption reference against Nawaz Sharif and his younger brother Shahabz Sharif in case of misuse of authority in construction of a road from Raiwind to the Sharif family's house. Around Rs 125.644 million were said to be misappropriated in the project. According to the official, the EMB also formally authorized five other corruption references, four inquiries and 11 investigations.
He said the anti-graft body also approved an investigation against former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, former minister Babar Awan, former Secretary Law Masood Chishti, former Secretary Shahder Rafi and former director Ijaz Bashir for delay in completion of Nandipur power project which inflicted Rs 113 billion losses on the national exchequer.
He said the meeting also okayed a corruption references against Sahibzada Khalid, former chairman Pakistan Tobacco Board, for alleged misuse of authority and illegal appointment which caused losses of worth millions of rupees to the national exchequer. Similarly, the EMB also authorized a reference against former chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Syed Asif Akhtar Hashmi for alleged illegal allotment of 450 plots of ETPB and misuse of authority.
He said the anti-graft body also approved another reference against former Secretary Labor Nasar Hayat and others for misuse of authority and purchase of 200 acres of land at exorbitant price which incurred loses of Rs 270.5 million to the national exchequer.
The official said that NAB also decided to file a corruption reference against former chairman WAPDA Tariq Hameed and others for approving 136MW Rental Power Project in violation of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PEPRA) and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) rules. The EBM also deiced to file a reference against former vice chancellor Federal Urdu University Dr Zafar Iqbal for misuse of authority.
The official said that the meeting approved an investigation against former advisor Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sikandar Aziz and others for illegal occupation and illegal transfer of land. The NAB board authorized another investigation against former Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani and others for illegally receiving compensation of Rs 1817 million from the government of Balochistan.
The anti-graft body also approved an investigation against former Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and others for appointment of former manager Syndic Mills Limited Muhammad Raziq and others in violation of rules, which inflicted a loss of Rs 17.70 million on the national kitty.
He said that NAB also approved an investigation against former Minister Arbab Alamgir Khan and MNA Asma Arbab Alamgir for possession of assets, worth Rs 2.486 billion, beyond known resources.
The EBM also approved investigation against former Secretary Workers Welfares Board Balochistan Mumtaz Ali Khan and others, okayed an investigation against former MNA Malik Ghulam Haider and others, approved an investigation against former MNA Sultan Mehmood and others, and approved an investigation against T&N Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd Faisalabad Director Riaz Ahmad. The Bureau also approved an investigation against former secretary local government Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and incumbent Additional Secretary Revenue Hamad Awais, former secretary and present director Frontier Education Foundation Hafizur Rehman and others for alleged embezzlement of funds released for installation of water filtration plants.
