Jamaat-e-Islami's secretary general Liaquat Baloch has said that Sharif brothers (Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif) were responsible for the conspiracy on the issue of Khatam-e-Nabuwat and the Model Town killings. "Attack on the Khatam-e-Nabuwat was made under the cover of electoral reforms," Baloch said, talking to the newsmen after the APC of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek.
He said that the Model Town tragedy was a dark spot on the country's history as innocent political workers were killed by unjustifiable misuse of state machinery. He said that the government had failed to provide justice to the aggrieved people but it was imperative to punish the culprits involved in the Model Town massacre.
He said that the investigations into the assassinations of former prime ministers Liaquat Ali Khan and Benazir Bhutto, of Akbar Bugti, May 12 (2007) Karachi killings, October 18th (2007) Karsaz blasts and Ziaul Haq's air crash (1988), were placed in cold storage which had led the country to chaos and uncertainty.
The JI acting chief said that the ruling PML-N leadership had been working against the parliamentary democratic system and the wishes of the masses and they had harmed civil and military relations. He said preferences for personal and family interests over the state institutions and the parliament had deepened the crisis. He said that in such a situation, the opposition would have to play decisive and constructive role. He said that the masses should not surrender to the corrupt mafias.
