The Planning Commission of Pakistan is finalizing the 12th five-year plan (2019-2023) and will present its document before National Economic Council (NEC) for approval in the next meeting. A meeting of the Planning Commission Steering Committee was held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman Planning Commission of Pakistan, Sartaj Aziz to discuss the broad socio-economic objectives of the next plan, which include sustained growth, climate change challenges, clean energy, agricultural productivity, infrastructure development and industrial revival.
Chairing a meeting of the steering committee for the formulation of the next plan, Aziz said that the Commission is working on the formulation of twelfth five year plan in consultations with the provinces as after the 18th Amendment of the constitution various subjects have been devolved to the provinces. The plan would serve as an umbrella and co-ordinate the progress of implementation once the socio-economic objectives are approved by the National Economic Council, Aziz said.
He said that the next plan would make efforts to incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030 approved by a United Nations in 2015. The eleventh five year plan (2013-18) is completing in June 2018, subsequently the next plan will be launched on July 1, 2018. The eleventh plan, issued at a time when Pakistan was facing multiple challenges on the economic, security and development fronts, encompassed operational details of the 'Pakistan Vision 2025', another document issued by the Planning Commission.
