Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday approved the bail plea of Maulana Sufi Muhammad, the founder of Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi (TNSM), who is likely to be released soon. Hearing the case, Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth approved the bail after petitioner's lawyer argued that Sufi Maulana Sufi remained in prison for a long time despite sickness and old age. The lawyer requested the court to accept the bail plea of Sufi Maulana for medical purposes.
According to reports, Sufi Muhammad was given bail in all 14 cases due to his old age and poor health. The Peshawar High Court Monday granted him bail in last case of speech against the state. The TNSM chief is currently hospitalized due to poor health condition. He remained in jail for 7 years.
It is worth mentioning that an FIR was registered against Sufi Muhammad during July 30, 2009. He was arrested on March 4, 2010, for his speeches against the government. He was released after six years in 2008 after TNSM renounced militancy, Sufi Muhammad was wanted in several cases registered against him. He had submitted a petition for bail plea in PHC.
