Prices of important kitchen items, including pulses, vegetable, chicken, eggs, witnessed a slight decrease in retail market, according to survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday. Price of live chicken has gone down to Rs 170 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 195 per kilogram in the preceding week as compared to last week. A dozen of egg is being sold at Rs 110 against the price of Rs 130 and Rs 140 during the previous week, the survey noticed.
Tomato is being sold at Rs 30 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 40 and Rs 50 per kilogram during the previous week. One-kilogram onion is available at Rs 40 per kilogram against the rate of Rs 60 per kg. Ginger and garlic, most used item of kitchen, is available at Rs 160 and Rs 120 per kilogram, showing a decrease of Rs 30 to Rs 20 per kg in retail market, the survey noted. Red colour potato is being sold at Rs 40 per kg, and white colour potato at Rs 30 per kg.
Prices of other veggies have remained unchanged in retail market as cauliflower is being sold at Rs 70 per kilogram, capsicum at Rs 80 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs 120 per kg, cabbage at Rs 50 per kg, arvi at Rs 60 per kg, turnip at Rs 30 per kg. According to survey, a one-kilogram lemon is being sold at Rs 80, green chili at Rs 100 per kg, carrot at Rs 40 per kg, radish at Rs 20 per bundle. Similarly, according to survey, the prices of pulses, except rice have remained stable in retail market. But the shopkeepers and retailers in the provincial capital Peshawar were charging the consumers with different rates against the official prices.
Price of one-kilogram good quality (sela) rice has increased to Rs 145 in retail market, which was selling at Rs 130 per kilogram during the previous, while toota rice priced at Rs 60 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 70 per kg during the preceding week, the survey noticed.
Price of one-kilogram big white channa has remained stable as it is available at Rs 190 per kg, while small size at Rs 170 per kg in retail market, while dal mash is being sold at Rs 140 per kg against the Rs 160 per kg during previous week, the survey noticed, while dal channa is priced at Rs 120 per kg in retail market.
Likewise, the survey further witnessed price of gram flour (baisen) has decreased in retail market as being sold at Rs 120 per kg, which was selling at Rs 130 per kg during the previous week. Red bean is available at different rates in retail market, as Rs 170, Rs 140 and Rs 120 per kg.
White lobiya priced at Rs 120 per kilogram in retail market. Dal green is being available at Rs 120 per kilogram, moonge at Rs 120 per kg, dal masoor at Rs 100 per kg. Prices of all brand and quality of cooking oil/ghee remained unchanged, the survey noticed.
One-kilogram sugar is being sold at Rs 55 in retail market, showing an increase of Rs 2 per kg in retail market, the survey noticed. Cow beef is being available at Rs 300 and Rs 350 per kilogram. Mutton is being sold at Rs 700 and Rs 750 per kilogram in retail market.
Fruits are staple food, which is also out of the reach of purchasing power of the common man, as their prices registered 'sky-high' in retail market. According to survey, big-size red apple is being sold at Rs 150, while other at Rs 130 and Rs 120 per kg. Golden apple is available at Rs 100 and Rs 80 per kg, orange being sold at Rs 80 and Rs 100 per dozen, kinnow is available at Rs 80 and Rs 60 per dozen, big-size banana at Rs 60 per dozen, while small-size banana at Rs 50 and Rs 40 per dozen, guava at Rs 80 per kg.
The survey noticed that one litre fresh milk is being sold at Rs 100 and Rs 120 against the official fixed rate of Rs 80 per litre. Yogurt is being available at Rs 100 and Rs 110 per kg. Good quality black tea is being sold at Rs 350 per kg and Rs 400 per kg, green tea at Rs 250 per kg, a one kilogram pack of milk powder at Rs 700 in retail market.
