Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique inaugurated extension of psychiatry ward of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, here Monday. Eight beds for addicts have been included in the ward which was earlier consisted on seventeen beds. Moreover a student's counselling section according to the criteria of higher education commission has also been established in which students from Fatimah Jinnah Medical University as well as other universities have also been accommodated for training in the subject of psychiatry.
On this occasion Khawaja Salman Rafique congratulated the vice chancellor FJMU Professor Khalid Masood Gondal and other faculty members on the recognition of the university by HEC. Salman Rafique said that extension of addiction block in the psychiatry department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is a good step in the right direction that would be helpful for the treatment of such patients.
Head of the department Dr Ammara Amir briefed the minister regarding the activities and treatment facilities in the psychiatry department. On this occasion, vice chancellor FJMU Professor Khalid Masood Gondal said that the renovation and expansion of psychiatry department is the result of hard work and day and night efforts of the faculty members. He showed commitment to bring the FJMU on the top of the list of renowned medical universities.
Earlier the minister health Khawaja Salman Rafique also chaired syndicate meeting of FJMU in the committee room of the university. Various matters regarding financial and administrative issues were discussed and important decisions were taken in this regard. Syndicate also gave approval for creation of new post, reappointment of ad-hoc employees, timescale promotions of grade one to four. It was also decided that a new gynae unit would be established in the government hospital Mozang for which post of associate professor and other staff would also be created.
