National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to initiate an inquiry into escalation of construction cost of much-awaited Kachhi Canal Project from Rs 30 billion to Rs 120 billion. The project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in September last.
An official said that the decision to this effect was taken in a meeting presided over by Chairman NAB Javed Iqbal. The chairman ordered to initiate an inquiry regarding increase in estimated cost of Kachhi Canal Project, which was commenced in 2002, because of corrupt practices. The 363 km long main canal (out of which 351 km is lined canal) takes off from Taunsa Barrage in Muzaffargarh (Punjab) and ends at district Dera Bugti (Balochistan).
