Technical working group of GIZ will hold series of meetings to decide the issues relating to the sector specific training for the female workers in Lahore and Faisalabad, said Miss Tehniat Omer of the Faisalabad Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FWCCI).
Representing the FWCCI in a meeting of GIZ held to discuss the 5 core issues confronted by the female workers employed in textile sector; she said that main streaming of women is imperative to expedite the pace of overall progress and prosperity of Pakistan. She said that generally female are ignored in industrial sector. "They have to face discriminated attitude and less salary then the male workers for the same job", she said and added that it is only due to this reason that Pakistan is still staggering at exports of $20 billion despite of its huge potential.
She said that rural women are somehow contributing in agriculture sector by actively participated in cotton picking and harvesting of different crops. But the situation in urban areas is altogether different. However government has taken revolutionary steps to involve women in various sectors of economy in addition to their main streaming. She said that stitching is one of the most suitable sectors for female industrial workers as some of the leading stitching units are hiring only female workers but there workforce require on job training to operate the high speed stitching machines etc. She told that TVET institutes are imparting training to the female workers in various market driven sectors but they should focus of the major industrial centers like Lahore and Faisalabad.
