Sindh Environmental Protection Council (SEPC) has formed a sub-committee to review the Sindh Environment Quality Standards (SEQS) and propose necessary amendments within a period of one month. The sub-committee was formed during a meeting of SEP Council presided over by Sindh Minister for Environment, Climate Change & Costal Development Muhammad Ali Malkani held for approval of SEQS and also for framing the rules of procedure for SEP Council.
The sub-committee will be chaired by the Secretary, Environment, Climate Change & Coastal Development Department Baqaullah Unnar, and will comprise of the following 11 members: Gulzar Feroze of FPCCI, representative of CCI Karachi, representative of SITE Association Karachi, representative of KATI, representative of CCI Hyderabad, Ghulam Murtaza representative of Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources, Shahid Lutfi environmental expert, Professor Dr Rasool Bux Mahar Mehran University of Engineering & Technology Jamshoro, Professor Dr Shabbar Ali Dean (Civil) NED University, Waqar Hussain Phulpoto Additional Director General SEPA, Dr Ashique Ali Langah Director General Regional Office Karachi SEPA.
Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani, Chairman of the Council also directed SEPA to prepare draft for "Rules of Procedure" of the Council within 30 days for review of the council members. The members of the council, after detailed deliberation also approved of the SEQS notified earlier, vide Gazette Notification No EPA/TECH/739/2014 dated, 28th January, 2016.
The meeting was attended by Baqaullah Unnar Secretary Environment, Climate Change & Coastal Development Department/Director General Sindh EPA, Syed Jamal Mustafa Secretary Irrigation Department, Abdul Raheem Secretary Industries, Dr Muhammad Usman Chachar Commissioner Sukkur Division and other ex-officio members, the representatives of FPCCI, Chamber of Commerce and Industries Karachi, SITE Association, KATI Association, NGOs, academia and technical experts.
