"Punjab government on Wednesday launched 24-point booklet regarding safety of children which will be distributed to teachers and parents in first phase." Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Mashood announced this while addressing a press conference at Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB). He talked in detail about the booklet.
Rana Mashood said that purpose of launching this booklet is to create awareness among the children, parents and teachers. He said that in the first phase 400,000 booklets will be published in the first phase. He said that these books will also be sent to different organisations for feedback. He said that government will organise seminar to create awareness among the masses regarding child abuse.
He said there will be different books for different levels. He said that material regarding awareness about child abuse will be part of the curriculum after consulted and approved by stake holders. Mashood said that after Kasur incident it was decided to initiate a committee which will recommend measures regarding prevention of child molestation, awareness regarding safety and security of children.
He claimed that Punjab government is working on a system that if any child will be missing a nationwide alert will be issued adding that in this regard a committee had been constituted. He also said that committee had decided that Child Protection Bureau will be responsible for dealing with the psychological problems of such children.
The minister said that after the tragic incident of Zainab it was felt that there was dire need for preparing reading material as well as awareness campaign for children, parents and teachers which would explain and guide them to prevent child abuse and molestation.
He said that book titled Pakeza Zindagi was jointly prepared by School Education Department, Punjab Curriculum and Text Book Board. He also said that Punjab government is going to start regular parent-teacher meetings at government schools as this would discuss the situation of child not only about his academic but his other problems too.
