The Pakistan FMCG Importers Association (PFIA) expressed grave concern over alleged reports of imposition of regulatory duty (RE) on new products and urged the government to refrain from it. In a joint statement issued today, PFIA patron-in-chief Naseem Chawala, Chairman Anjum Nisar, Vice Chairman Muhammad Ejaz Tanveer, Secretary General Ali Tariq Mattoo and Zeeshan Bakhsi said the business community is already perturbed over the regulatory duty levied in the past.
If new products are brought under this duty, it will make negative impact on commerce and trade. They said the government should not levy such duties to bridge the budget deficit but it should try to increase revenue by bringing non-taxed sectors into tax net and provide an enabling environment to business sector for increased economic activity.
