The Child Protection Authority has registered some 960 cases of children's maltreatment the province, Sindh social welfare Minster Shamim Mumtaz told the Sindh Assembly on Friday. Responding to a call-attention notice, she said that the provincial legislature adopted a law to establish Child Protection Authority in 2011. Child protection units of the authority are functioning in 29 district of province, which registered 960 cases of children's poor treatment so far.
Around 65 of the total reported cases were about abuses against children, she said, adding that the rules and procedures for the authority were evolved in 2016. She said that 96 cases of children's abuse were also reported to the police. The advisor to the chief minister on Special Education, Ghazal Laghari, told the house that the province has only one college for persons with disabilities. She said that the some 30,000 persons with disabilities are receiving education at 50 centres across the province, and that 12 more such centres are under construction.
