Punjab Minister for Food Bilal Yaseen on Friday paid a visit to 10 sugar mills located in the four districts of Punjab and examined ongoing sugarcane procurement process and arrangements made for convenience of farmers. He met with district administration officials, peasant leaders and management of sugar mills at Faisalabad, Jhang, Athara Hazari, Toba Tek Singh and Shorkot. He categorically emphasized the need of fair weighing of sugarcane at sugar mills.
Talking to mills owners of various districts, he said "Let me make it clear that any injustice and exploitation of growers would not be tolerated and anyone involved in such practice will be taken to task," he warned. He said: "We are in the field on special instructions by the Chief Minister and monitoring of crushing season shall continue till the last day".
Bilal Yaseen, however, expressed his satisfaction over actions taken by concerned district officials. He also examined receipts (CPRs) on the spot and directed to remove hurdles in the way of relief meant for sugarcane growers. "Middlemen's role and weighing scales complaints will be considered as failure of district official and departmental action will be taken against such persons," added.
