A parliamentary panel has recommended for withdrawing tax on sports goods to facilitate young talent in the country. The Senate Special Committee formed to examine overall working of the sports federations in Pakistan met with Dr Ashok Kumar in the chair here on Friday, where Minster for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada said that former finance minister had imposed tax on sports goods. Due to the imposition of tax, prices of sports goods increased in the country. The committee recommended to withdraw the tax imposed on sports goods.
The committee expressed serious concerns over the matters of Football Federation. It was informed that Administrator of Football Federation Asad Munir is receiving Rs 0.5 million per month. To review the Football Federation matters, the administrator was appointed for three months, but matters are yet to be resolved despite passage of three years. Convener of the committee Ashok Kumar directed the administrator to attend the next meeting and present details about the government facilities, current amount in the bank account, the amount paid from the Federation's account and others expenditures, etc, besides the total amount collected by the administrator. He said that Federation's performance is nothing despite the fact that the government is providing funds and facilities.
Senator Shibli Faraz said, "It seems a matter of interests and the Federation's issues require attention and resolution." Senator Taj Haider, who submitted the calling attention notice in the Senate to draw attention towards the suspension of membership of Pakistan by FIFA due to failure of Pakistan Football Federation to meet its obligations, said that efforts need to be made for early resolution of pending matter in the court. He further said that after complete decision, the appeal rights would be vanished, which would help in resolving the Federation's matters.
