NY publication comes under fire for accusing Priyanka of tricking Nick into marriage

While fans are still going gaga over Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas wedding pictures, an international publication called PeeCee a ‘global scam artist’ in their article and accused her of tricking 'young Jonas' into a lifelong commitment when all he really wanted was a fling.

This didn’t go down well with Priyanka’s fans including Bollywood film fraternity. Reacting to the article, Indian celebrities such as Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Arjun Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and singer Sona Mohapatra, have criticised journalist Mariah Smith for writing a ‘racist’ article about Priyanka.

“Priyanka: She is a modern-day scam artist, in my opinion. That's right: Nicholas Jonas married into a fraudulent relationship against his will this past Saturday, December the 1st, and I'll tell you why I think so,” the article read.

The writer calls Priyanka a ‘global scam artist’ whose PR machinery was on the lookout for a romance for her. It also said Priyanka intends to break Nick’s heart and that he simply wanted ‘a fling’ with an older woman but is now caught up in a ’life sentence’, advising him to run away on the horse he arrived to his wedding on. The highly sexist piece also shamed her for buying expensive things and said that their relationship doesn’t make sense as Nick would want to stay a bachelor at 24 while Priyanka would be looking to settle down at 34, Indian media reported.

Actress Sonam Kapoor was amongst the many Twitter users, who responded angrily to the offensive piece. "The article on Priyanka Chopra was sexist, racist and disgusting. Also it's written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness," Sonam tweeted.

Nick's brother Joe Jonas and his fiance Sophie Turner also fired back at the publication for the 'disgusting' article.

The Cut has now taken the offending article down and apologised. “Last night, the Cut published a post about Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s relationship that shouldn’t have gone up. We’ve received dozens of messages from readers expressing their anger. We want you to know that we hear you and we’re sorry. The whole piece missed the mark. There is no good explanation for this other than human error and poor judgement. This was a mistake, and we apologize to our readers and to Priyanka and Nick,” they wrote in a note by the Editor.
