Pakistan Customs has celebrated International Customs Day with much fervor at Customs House Karachi. This day was dedicated by the World Customs Organization (WCO) to be celebrated every year. The theme set by WCO for the year 2018 was "A secure business environment for economic development." The celebration began with flag hoisting ceremony.
The Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair graced the occasion as chief guest and formally started the event with flag raising ceremony along with Manzoor Memon Chief Collector Enforcement South, Karachi. In the event, the customs' officers paid salutations with national anthem and students of Customs Public School sang patriotic songs. During event, the Pakistan Customs in order to recognize the efforts and achievements of its players presented them awards for outstanding performances. Foreign dignitaries, heads of various law enforcement agencies, senior bureaucrats, representatives of business community, social workers and other prominent figures were present on the occasion.
Governor Sindh lauded the efforts of Customs Department for efficient vigilance at country's borders to avoid the illegal trade of contraband goods. Chief Collector Enforcement South and Collector Customs Karachi Iftikhar Ahmad also spoke on the event. Later, certificates were distributed by the Customs Department to its officials, who performed exceptionally well during last year. The second event of destruction ceremony was held at Customs Colony Mauripur, Karachi where the smuggled or contraband goods including liquor (33226 bottles), bear cans (20796 cans), hashish (6508 kilograms), amphetamine crystals (700 grams), white heroin (650 grams), assorted medicines, Gutka, tobaccos, adult toys, black tea, expired coffee, plastic roll, etc were torched.
