Punjab government admits 70 percent seats vacant in public sector colleges, universities
Punjab government on Tuesday admitted that seventy percent seats in public sector colleges and universities are vacant. Opposition and Treasury benches criticized government for not providing basic facilities in public sector educational institutes during the past ten years. While responding to the criticism of the Opposition and Treasury benches parliamentary secretary higher education Mehwish Sultana said that according to the new rules of the Public Service Commission if some department wants to fill the jobs that department should intimate at least six months before giving advertisement for recruitment adding that now the tenure of the government is less than three months so it is difficult to fill the seats during this financial year.
Earlier, Punjab assembly session started 1 hour 12 minutes late under the chair of speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal. On Private members day Jamaat-e-Islami MPA Syed Wasim Akhter tabled The Punjab Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran Bill 2017. The chair referred the bill to the committee and directed the committee to present the bill in the house in two months.
Opposition leader Mian Mahmoodur Rashid while speaking on the point of order said that why the new building of the Punjab Assembly was not completed in ten years. He also said that every year a heavy amount was allocated in the budget for this building.
