One of the most important and critical role of the FBR is to carry out the effective enforcement of tax laws in the country. The setting up of the Inland Revenue Enforcement Network (IREN) was a step in the same direction. This illegal trade of cigarettes has been going on since long and has deprived the national exchequer of billions in revenue. It is therefore very heartening to see that the IREN team produced the desired results. The way in which IREN has conducted its operations in its first year is highly appreciated and the way it has carried out its enforcement activities with the highest levels of integrity and uprightness is definitely a feather in its cap. IREN has provided a much needed impetus to the enforcement of tax laws across the country. I hope that IREN continues to perform its duties with the highest level of professionalism and patriotism. On the completion of one year of operations of the Inland Revenue and Enforcement Network, I would like to commend the efforts of the whole team that showed great enthusiasm and dedication in the crackdown on illegal trade of cigarettes.
