Supreme Court has decided to take up election appeal of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz stalwart, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq; which he had filed against decision of re-election in NA-125 constituency. Rafiq had secured 123,416 votes whereas his opponent Hamid Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf obtained 84,495 votes from NA-125 constituency in the general election 2013.
Hamid Khan had challenged Rafiq's victory, alleging that the PML-N candidate had rigged the elections to which election tribunal deseated Rafiq and issued directives for re-election in the constituency. However, Rafiq challenged the tribunal's decision before the apex court where he was granted stay order in the matter.
On Friday, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar fixed the matter for Feb 06 before a three-member bench led by Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh. Talking to Business Recorder, Hamid Khan confirmed that notices have been received for Feb 06 in the matter.
