Robot malfunction at Amazon sends 24 people to hospital

It is rightly said that no matter how much one feeds into a machine, it will still remain a machine. That’s exactly what happened when a robot malfunctioned at one of Amazon’s warehouses and landed 24 people in hospital.

In a New Jersey Amazon warehouse, a robot accidentally tore open a 255g can of bear repellent spray made out of extremely spicy peppers, spraying on to two dozen workers and landing them to the hospital.

Stuart Appelbaum, the president of the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union, told ABC News, “Amazon’s automated robots put humans in life-threatening danger today, the effects of which could be catastrophic and the long-term effects for 80 plus workers are unknown. The richest company in the world cannot continue to be let off the hook for putting hard working people’s lives at risk.”

Amazon clarifies steps being taken for safety of its workers

A local informed the media outlet that one of the workers was in critical condition, but all of them were released within 24 hours. Also, 30 other workers were treated at the scene. Moreover, Amazon has previously come under fire too for being regarded as among the workplaces with poor working conditions in its warehouses, reported Futurism.

“The safety of our employees is our top priority, and as such, all employees in that area have been relocated to safe place and employees experiencing symptoms are being treated onsite. As a precaution, some employees have been transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment,” an Amazon spokesperson told ABC News.
