Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated corruption inquiry against Directorate Intelligence and Investigation (DI&I), Customs Lahore. According to sources, FIA Corporate Crime Circle (CCC) has sent a notice under section 94 Cr PC to chief management customs, Islamabad over millions of rupees corruption. The notice stated that agency had initiated inquiry over corruption/misappropriation of millions of rupees in the state warehouse located in Lahore where seized goods especially mobile phones were allegedly sold to CSD.
For the purpose, the agency has asked the chief management customs, Islamabad to furnish all relevant records before the investigation officers. The chief management customs is required to submit records pertaining to 1763 mobile phones confiscated by the DI&I, Customs Lahore, which were allegedly sold to CSD and records of similar transaction made in the Directorate during past 10 years.
Meanwhile, sources said that FIA had sent two notices to submit all relevant records before the investigation officers with the deadlines - January 22, 2018 and February 2, 2018. However, the authorities have appeared hesitant to oblige the request of the agency and furnished a rationale that departmental inquiry was underway.
Moreover, sources in FIA said that board in the past detected immense number of fraud cases against its officials, but not a single person was terminated so far and added that there was a need of initiating fair investigation, which was not aimed at concealing the facts to shelve the case but to take responsible officers to task.
