The Supreme Court has called for a report of police encounters in Punjab during past one year, in a week. A three member bench headed by Chief Justice while hearing a sou moto notice about police encounters, ordered Inspector General Police to submit a report detailing number of police officials killed or injured along with the names of those criminals killed by police in these encounters.
Police killed 137 people in district Kasur alone in a year in fake encounters, a report says. When IGP sought more time for submission of the report, the CJP remarked that it should available in tour record. The Supreme Court has already taken a suo motu notice of the extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Meshud, a Waziristan native who was gunned down in a fake police encounter in Karachi last month.
