The legal fraternity on Monday observed a day of mourning over the sad demise of Asma Jahangir. The judicial work also remained at low pace and majority of the lawyers abstained from routine work. The lawyers spent most of their time while sitting in the bar rooms and shared grief of Asma's death with each other. While sharing his views, Lahore High Court Bar Association Vice President Rashid Mahmood Lodhi said the death of Asma Jahangir was not a loss for legal fraternity but for the whole country.
He said lawyers and the people of Pakistan could never forget struggle of Asma and her contribution for implementation of basic rights of people.
LHCBA former secretary Rana Asadullah Khan said another chapter of resistance against oppression had closed down with the death of Asma Jahangir. "She always stood like a rock against military rule of Zia and Musharraf," Rana Asad said, and added that she talked truthfully against religious bigotry. Rana said Asma built a soft, tolerant and modern image of Pakistan internationally. The Pakistan Bar Council had also announced three-day mourning after her death.
