Supreme Court on Monday asked director general (DG) Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and managing director (MD) Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) to appear before the court in response to a suo motu case regarding inconvenience to passengers in baggage handling at national airports.
Heading a three-member bench in the matter, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said while addressing to Maria Jabeen, Deputy Director CAA that the authority should develop a mechanism to address complaints. Responding to the query, Jabeen submitted that a dedicated telephone line has been established to redress complaints. Expressing dismay over luggage handling at the airports, Chief Justice observed that it takes hours to receive luggage, adding that instead of customs officials, porters have to do everything.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that general condition of an airport gives the first impression of the entire country to international passengers. Later, summoning the DG CAA and MD OPF in Karachi registry of the apex court, the bench adjourned hearing of the case till 17th February.
