Contaminated water: PPP southern Punjab chapter seeks to become party to case
The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) South Punjab has decided to join the Supreme Court proceedings under a suo moto case for availability of drinking water in the province. Secretary General PPP South Punjab Shaukat Basra said the people in South Punjab are dying due to consuming contaminated water, as the hazardous water from factories is being thrown to the rivers flowing towards the region. He said the PPP South Punjab was highlighting the issue but the rulers in Lahore were paying no heed to it. He thanked Chief Justice Pakistan for taking a suo moto notice on the issue.
He recalled that Shahbaz Sharif has always termed investment on clean water as equal to the dumping of development funds. The people of South Punjab had lost their hope for any improvement in the situation until the Chief Justice Pakistan took a suo moto notice, he added. He vowed to put forward the devastating effects of contaminated water before the Supreme Court after becoming part of the proceedings.
He has also demanded action against Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for misquoting the Chief Justice. "Since I was present in the court therefore I can say with certainty that the Chief Justice has not mentioned about his wish of having Shahbaz Sharif as a prime minister of Pakistan," he added.
