Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan has ordered formation of an alternative co-ordinated security plan for the central police office (CPO), Governor House, and residence of Punjab Chief Minister besides other sensitive installations of law enforcement agencies of the city by keeping in view the orders of the apex court and convenience of citizens.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar while hearing multiple suo motu cases including unnecessary barricades, provision of clean drinking water and police encounters in Punjab on Sunday at Supreme Court Lahore Registry, ordered the authorities concerned to immediately remove all security barricades outside various places.
It may be noted that the barricades had been erected outside Nawaz Sharif's residence of Jati Umra, Shahbaz Sharif's Model Town residence and office, Governor House, Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Jamaat-ud-Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed and his seminary Jamia Al Qadsia, late Punjab Governor Salman Taseer's residence, Qilla Gujjar Singh Police Station, passport office, WAPDA House and besides sites.
In this context, the IGP on Monday chaired a meeting to review progress made for the implementation of the SC orders and also directed to formulate a separate traffic plan through which smooth traffic flow can be maintained outside offices of senior police officers. "The police officers should sort out a permanent solution of encroachments and avoid unnecessary closure of arteries," the IGP said.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Amin Wains, Additional IG (Operations) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, Additional IG Special Branch Faisal Shahkar, Additional IG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab Rai Tahir, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf and Superintendent of Police (Security) Lahore Ammara Athar and other senior police officers attended the meeting.
In the meeting, the participants deliberated in detail all security concerns which have been emerged after the removal of barricades placed outside the offices of the law enforcements agencies.
CCPO Amin Wains while briefing the members said following the orders of the SC all barricades erected outside offices of senior police officers have been removed and there is no artery closed in the provincial metropolis by the police personnel. "We are fully aware of all prevailing security challenges and will give our lives (if needed) to our motherland and its people," CCPO Wains said.
